What is campaign finance reform?

Campaign finance reform is, quite simply, one of the most important and intractable issues of our time. Over five billion dollars will be spent on federal elections this year, mostly by the wealthiest individuals and corporations. That money allows the wealthiest donors to control the politicians they put in office, even if that control prevents those politicians from doing what is best for our country.

Accomplishing meaningful and exhaustive campaign finance reform would mean our elected leaders will answer to voters, not dollar signs. It would mean that people, not corporations, would drive the political conversation and legislative agenda.

This movement turns the current system on its head

The goal of this nonpartisan project is simple. When a major candidate voices strong support for reforming the broken system of campaign finance, individuals like you immediately donate $3 to that candidate from across the country. Together, your actions will generate so many small donations that several things will happen:

  • The candidate will understand that he or she has the support of the people on this issue, and other candidates will understand that this is an issue that Americans care deeply about.
  • Other voters like yourselves will notice.
  • The media will take notice.

In other words, working together, this movement will deliver a strong message about how urgently campaign finance reform is needed.
